Classic Summer Staples
Pink and White Forever
We’ve all been there. Pulling clothes from our closet as panic sets in. Finding the perfect summer look doesn’t have to be hard. Two simple, classic fashion staples I love are white tee’s and pink skirts. This season I’ve been fortunate enough to score a couple cute pieces from here and here. Here are a few basic rules I use to build easy and comfortable summer outfits.
1. The Foundation: Keep It Simple
When you’re wondering how to refresh your wardrobe without breaking the bank, go back to basics. Solid colored t-shirts, jean pants, jean shorts, and classic footwear like this and this can help you step out on the right foot. (Haha, I really love puns!) Choose clothing that’s slightly form fitting, but not too tight. If the sleeves pinch your underarms, or the pockets of your pants fold up, then choose the next size up. If the neck of the tee goes more than about 3 inches past your collarbone, that tee may be too big. I always find good t-shirts here and here. (You can also see my “Shop My Instagram” page for a few more summer looks!)
2. Spice it Up: Prints & Bold Colors
A white tee, blouse, or top paired with simple bottoms are bound to lead to a clean look. For interest, you can marry a white top to a fun bottom, like a loud print, or bold neon! I have my eyes on this and this.
3. Layer for Interest: Add Personality
Layer accessories on top if you’re feeling a bit unsure. Here’s where you can add a bit of your own personality! If you see a scarf you like, tie it to your bag. If you found a cute, chunky bracelet, showcase it within the backdrop of a simple outfit first. (This might help you to gain that confidence when using it as a bold feature later!) Like a vintage pin? Add it to a tee, and maybe match some studded earrings to it. 000000 If you’re looking for a summer refresh, incorporate basics, add color, then layer in interesting accessories you love. I’d also add: choose a few colors you like to start building your seasonal wardrobe. This way you’ll find it easy to mix and match as you play around with outfits. Spring ended, and I had lots of whites, pinks, and blues. As summer comes, I’m building more whites, pinks, and yellows. Navy is the black of summer, so I’m scouting for a couple bargains in that color now.
LAST NOTE: Don’t be afraid to shop in unique places. I’ve found my favorite Oscar de La Renta scarf at an antique shop! And goodwill has brought me little, heavenly clutches! Poke through the “Accessories” pages online in various online stores for ideas when you’re in a rut. Accessories really bring simple clothing to life!
