Accessories that Stand the Test of Time
It’s no secret we all like to look extra special during the holidays – I mean, heck, even Santa is wearing red velvet and boots! This year, I let him inspire my holiday style just a little.
Velvet, silk, satin, cashmere – anything with an embellished look always catches my eye. Except this year, I decided to forego wearing a dress on Christmas day and instead, embrace a 2-piece outfit. I elevated my holiday look by adding several interesting elements like glitzy earrings, my sleek, new watch, and a vintage, silk clutch.
You know what they say, “expensive taste doesn’t have to be expensive.”
These earrings were a 7th grade find that are still some of my favorites. *TIP: store your vintage Forever 21 pieces in a velvet bag to keep them from oxidation. (And by vintage Forever 21, I mean 2002. Ha.) My mint condition, black, silk clutch was a vintage find from graduate school. You can shop this classic pencil skirt HERE, and a similar lovely red number HERE.
When you pair a variety of textures, fabrics, and materials you create depth to your wardrobe. Developing this depth can feel uncomfortable at first, but over time the more you layer pieces and match them together, the more you will begin to create a style that is uniquely your own with little to no effort.
Don’t be afraid to experiment. Consider the first item of clothing you feel most comfortable in, or that makes you the happiest. Build on this item. Then, gather 2-3 accessories. Choose whichever accessories lend to the overall time era, or essence of your desired look.
Classic accessories, like earrings, bracelets, and watches can immediately add allure and style.
Keep in mind that holiday style does not have to be fancy, or functional, but it most certainly can be BOTH! Even though I will be spending the day sipping away hot cocoa with my family, I want to make sure I know what time gift giving and getting begins.
