Our Stay at The Marlton Hotel
Parisian-Inspired Elegance in Greenwhich Village
There’s something magical about the moment you check-in for the first time at a luxurious hotel. The bellboy, the chatter, and the marbled entry tile – everything seems to me like a delicate ballet of routine and mystery. I’m enchanted.
I wonder, “How old is that door knob? Who designed this view? What will the morning breakfast taste like?”
Our summer vacation would not have been complete without hotel extraordinaire, Sean MacPherson’s The Marlton Hotel. In addition to our warm welcome, we enjoyed the modern twist atop French flare, and what Mr. MacPherson calls, “flea market finds.” I was so inspired by the pendant lighting that I convinced Rick we should rethink our entire Spanish kitchen renovation, and swap it out for something a little more modern + bistro. (We’ll be sharing our home reno’s in the next few months, for now you can shop The House of Mag here).
After washing up and dressing down in the most classically black and white tiled bathroom, that was supplied with loveliest crèmes and potions from the South of France’s Côté Bastide, and dining at the loveliest of courtyards, it didn’t take much to change his mind.
The Lobby
The floor to ceiling windows lined with magnificent drapes (yes, I am one of those who swoon over velvety curtains) lets in the most beautiful light. Spending the morning planning your next New York adventure was relaxing here, and a little thrilling as I overheard magazine executives meeting with a salon director, talking about how to accomplish the “pretty JCrew hair aesthetic” in their next spread.
The Room
The bed in a hotel room is everything. And the Marlton married two of my favorites: this Parisian blue headboard with a gilded gold frame, and delicately embroidered sheets. Tastefully designed, it was hard to leave such this little spot each day.
The Restaurant
There are times in your life when you do things that you are totally afraid to do, but you do them anyway. Ordering the squid ink pasta at The Margaux was a tad nerve wracking, I’ll admit. But, oh sweet Jesus, am I glad I did. Rick also recommends the burger for you more American folk.
For under $300/night you can enjoy a good night’s rest and good design too.
Don’t be afraid to leave the cocktails in the city early and watch your favorite movie clips inspired by your room. See here and here to get a sense of our movies in bed taste.
Au Revoir
